In Groot-Brittannië wordt kortdurende psychotherapie waaronder cognitieve ge- dragstherapie (CGt) en cliëntgerichte psychotherapie (Non Directive Counselling) – net zoals bij ons – op grote schaal toegepast in de eerste lijn. In de richtlijnen in Engeland wordt de aanbeveling gedaan non directive counselling pas in te zetten als andere behandelvormen geen effect hebben gehad of door de patiënt worden afgewezen, waarbij de patiënt op de hoogte dient te worden gebracht van het feit dat er voor counseling minder sterke evidentie is. In Schotland is de situatie vergelijk- baar. Hoewel de evidentie voor CGt ontegenzeglijk sterk is, hebben niet alle patienten baat bij cognitieve gedragstherapie en zullen sommigen meer profijt hebben van – of een voorkeur hebben voor – een andere benadering zoals psychodynamische therapie of cliëntg...
