Specific changes in the brain through non-specific factors in the psychotherapeutic relationship: an overview from an interpersonal neurobiological perspective

SUMMARY

This article summarizes the latest discoveries in the development and plasticity of the brain.
It reflects the influence of interpersonal relationships on neurophysiological processes and
the growth of neural circuits. Using an interpersonal neurobiological perspective, it will
be demonstrated that the non-specific factors in the psychotherapeutic relationship could
change the brain in very specific ways.
